Bunky's
Bunky's restaurant has been back in Madison now since 2004, and that make most Madison foodies very happy! Founded in the 1930s by Vito ("Bunky") and Ninfa Capadona, Bunky's was one of the first Italian restaurants in Madison (originally located on the corner of Park and Regent Street) and billed as one of the first Madison restaurants to serve pizza. Fast forward to 2004 Ninfa's great-granddaughter (and crew) have resurrected Bunky's on Madison's Atwood Ave., this time blending the traditional Italian cuisine with a taste of the Mediterranean ( and even though the location is a bit off the Madison campus, the cab or bike will be well worth the trip). Bunky’s serves up hearty Italian favorites (like their fresh homemade ravioli and pastas), awesome Mediterranean fare (kabobs.....mmmmmmmmm), and finally just to cover all the bases they offer tasty veggie, vegan, and even gluten free entrees. The atmosphere of this Madison classic revived, serves as a reminder to the original Bunky's with aged photos and artifacts plastering its walls, but it also embraces its new Mediterranean twist with a live belly dancer on the first and third Friday of every month. Yep, we hope Bunky's is as happy to be back as we are to have them back, and on a final note any restaurant that serves "baked cheese" as an appetizer, is probably going to have some staying power in Madison WI.
