If you have a pulse and live in the campus area of Madison AND HAVE NOT had Ian’s Pizza yet, you better double check again just to make sure you in fact DO have a pulse. Although a review of (arguably) Madison’s most beloved pizza is probably pretty pointless, we decided to hit up Ian’s for a (sober) taste-testing… think wine tasting but with pizza, and yes the idea was just as awesome as it sounds.
Since myself and the 3 friends I recruited for the job agreed that though we eat at Ian’s Pizza often, its typically after 1am (and mucho cerveza)… so the question we sought an answer for was, “is Ian’s Pizza just as “mind blowing-ly” good sober?” and the answer we quickly came to was “ahhhh most f*cking for sure!”
Our ratings of the Ian’s Pizzas we sampled are as follows (and might I just add, if you have not been ordering a side of Ian’s homemade ranch dressing for dipping their crafty creations into, you lose.)
1. Mac and Cheese
Classic Ian’s, just as good sober as drunk! No red sauce, just ricotta, mac and cheese, and melted cheddar.
2. Pepperoni and Cheese
I know it’s Ian’s, and it’s supposed to be “crazy pie”, but honestly their old school, straight up Pepperoni and Cheese pizza was a close second favorite for the crowd I was with. A classic combo, but done to near perfection.
3. BBQ Steak and Fries
High school lunch style (or crinkle cut) fries, slices of steak, slathered in BBQ Sauce… this was a definite winner. It’s like the hipper, better looking (and tasting) cousin of the BBQ chicken pizza.
4. Guac Burrito
Just like it sounds, a Mexican-Italian hybrid of amazing-ness. Black beans, rice, cheese, sour cream and guacamole… words are not needed, just chewing and swallowing.
5. Lasagna Marinara
Dudes its fricking lasagna on a pizza, carbs on carbs you know it just HAS to be killer. I think the only reason we ranked this last was because, well… something had to be ranked last.
